Foundation of Bata Industrials
Founded in the Czech Republic in 1894, Bata was one of the
first manufacturers to sell its products all over the world. As early as the
1930s, the company was active in Switzerland, Germany, England, France,
Yugoslavia, Poland, India and the Netherlands. This expansion continued, and in
the 1960s, 42,000 employees were working in one of Bata’s thousands of shops
and many factories. The foundation of this success was our continuous
commitment to research and development.
THE BATA SHOE FACTORY
Set against the backdrop of KwaZulu-Natal's countryside,
Bata's Loskop factory has been a proud part of South African manufacturing
since 1977. For generations, the facility has combined skilled craftsmanship
and local expertise to produce quality footwear trusted by millions of South
Africans.
The Loskop factory produces our renowned Toughees school
shoes, as well as gumboots and safety footwear for industrial use,
manufacturing an average of 300,000 pairs of shoes each month. That's more than
3.3 million pairs every year.
The factory is renowned for its direct injection
manufacturing process, which delivers exceptional strength, durability, and
consistent quality across our footwear range.
Bata's manufacturing success is driven by our dedicated
South African workforce. By producing many of our products locally, we help
create jobs, develop skills, support communities, and contribute to economic
growth while delivering high-quality footwear that offers lasting value to
customers across the country.
